Former US Mint Director: Audits of US Gold Since 1953 Have Been Of The "Peek Through The Vault Door" Variety

Apparently, assays (say, to check for tungsten-replaced gold) -- even random ones of some small percentage of the bars -- have not been performed since 1953. And of course, even performing such an assay would not prove that the gold has not been rehypothecate, on some second set of books....
