"In a sign of hard times, lenders and landlords in the county sought 28 percent more court-approved evictions in fiscal year 2008-2009, which ended June 30, than the year before. The number of eviction filings has held steady at more than 525 a month ever since, but is expected to shoot up again next year, with thousands of so-called "shadow'' evictions in the wings — involving people who are struggling to make payments or who have already stopped."
