The following was contributed by long-time reader John Chandler of ChandlerSearch, who is himself a victim of our industry's meltdown by proxy having been a recruiter for mortgage and financial services professionals. With all of the negative publicity and press about "Predatory lending" and the "unscrupulous mortgage industry", it has become extremely difficult for former mortgage industry employees to get a job outside of the industry. Granted, those guilty of those acts are few in percentage numbers, but the press has helped get those exiting the Mortgage Industry blackballed. So many of those who write the negative stories about the mortgage industry don't give all of the details and don't assign the blame to all facets of the overall industry, including to the builders and realtors. They opt to blame the mortgage broker (not even the banks or bankers). As a National Executive Recruiter who has recruited for the mortgage industry at pretty much all levels and for all positions, I have a plethora of friends in the industry across the country who are each experiencing the blackballing effect the few "bad ones".
