We have an idea to help "reform" mortgages and rebalance the market: eliminate the unfair tax subsidy for mortgages. This subsidy is used to "buy off" the bulk of the middle class, but ends up just causing home prices to rise, and induces people to get into home debtorship who would be better off renting and saving.
