does anyone know the true number, for full employment for the US?

The rates at which boomers are retiring and the labor force is growing, 5.5% is the new 4%.

Love that "new" smell.

So under that % we should be looking at 141-142 million fully employed individuals?

Not sure if the link will work, but the article intimates that there is a shortfall of 17,000 workers in north Dakota, and 15000 resumes to fill those jobs, all the while ND has an unem[loyment rate of .9%.

Quote:
The unemployment rate fell by 0.4 percentage point to 8.6 percent in November, and nonfarm payroll employment rose by 120,000, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Employment continued to trend up in retail trade, leisure and hospitality, professional and business services, and health care. Government employment continued to trend down.

The fall in the jobless rate was aided by 315,000 people leaving the workforce. That pushed the participation rate, a ratio of the amount of the population in the labor force, down to 64.0 percent. Those who exited the workforce, many of whom gave up on looking for work, outnumbered the 278,000 people who found jobs, according the Labor Department’s household survey, which is separate from payrolls data.

From me a long time ago posted previously...

It is totally amazing to me that the gov't can actually use the quoted definition to calculate jobs. Anyone who has at least the brain power of a dead maggot can see that if every person in america did not work but were so depressed they quit looking for work and fell out of the labor pool that the unemployment rate would be zero. At that point there would be nobody working but the unemployment rate would equal zero. Absurd. Therefore if the algorithm is absurd then the statistics based on it are false and absolutely meaningless.

So...what we have again is gov't lying from the Bureau of Lying Statistics (BLS). If everyone would drop out of the work force so there was not a single person working then the unemployment level would be ZERO...yep...full employment with no employment...ya gotta admire how gov't can make lies sound so good...
