VIX at 80.

Personally I think that the sheople are afraid Obama will win and are selling now to avoid a huge capital gains increase...who knows.

I also believe that we have a deflation scare that is hammering stocks and precious metals.

I also believe that precious metals bought here are a gift that will reward you and change your life.

I also believe that Ben "deflation won't happen here" Bernanke will print to infinity and beyond.

I believe the children are our future. Teach them well, and let them lead the way.

I agree. I just hope that we haven't indebted our children so much that they cannot overcome and lead.

Please don't be offended, but I thought for those didn't know what the VIX actually represents - I would explain.

Implied Volatility is determined by the options premium.

In simple terms it is a % that the underlying asset based on 1 standard deviation annualize.

Example:
VIX 70% (based off S&P 500 options premium)
SPX 1000

The VIX implies that the S&P 500 will be between 300 to 1700 (+/- 700) for 1 standard deviation (68%) over one year.

A common misconception is that is implies movement, that it will move 700 points. That is not true - it simply determines a range and the likelyhood that it will fall within that range.

There is also the concept of skew - but I'll leave that for another time.

I have never seen any of the indices (in over 20 years in the market) with options volatility that high. There are some seriously good premium sales out there - if you are positioned.
