Retail Hedge Funds
PostPosted: Sat Feb 02, 2008 9:29 pm Reply with quoteBack to top

Anyone have experience of these over the past year? I am looking at a BlackRock retail fund which is impressively stable at 10% growth as a place to put some cash. Am I nuts? How safe is this kind of thing?

That would depend: what is the strategy of the fund, and how is it implemented?

Basically past returns mean nothing. Is the approach sound? Is it really hedging? Etc.

it looks OK. No leverage. Active hedging to reduce volatility. Bets made on least worse in falling market, best in rising market

I agree with Aaron completely. Analyzing managers is all about the "Five Ps."

Pedigree, Process, Portfolio, Performace and Price. Hedging is just a tactic to use within one of those P's Process.

HFMA? Yup! I use to post there rather often for networking but lately that message board has been dead. REO spammers took it over a couple quarters ago once the credit market started to nose dive.

I am a hedge fund consultant and work for a third party marketing firm here in the US. I am a consultant in two forms.

The first is that I help money managers raise their assets under management by introducing them to institutional investors, consultants, family offices, fund of funds and financial advisors.

The second is that I help institutional investors, consultants, family offices, fund of funds and financial advisors find unique, well-researched money managers whether they be hedge funds, fund of funds or US equity long only managers.

What do you do?
