Fiscal Stimulus Package helps Nobody

What do you think about the fiscal stimulus package?

I think it's a waste of energy. There are so many restrictions, and many people it's supposed to 'help' will get lost because they either didn't pay income taxes last year, or aren't wage earners (disabled or retired).

Its not intended to help anyone.

The government has to try to stave off deflation and prop up GDP. This is a silly attempt to do both.

The government doing something to "help" someone. Now that's funny.

It's more hot air being expelled from our "Government".

Words you never, ever want to hear from a "Government" official - "We're here to help."

Really? Wanna help? Stay 500 yards away from me, that would surely help.

Here is the biggest fiscal stimulus package on the planet earth. Looking into the future it is gonna get bigger. The only way the US can stay on top is via the military. We will use it more and more as our hyperinflation and fascism get progressively worse. We will print the $$ to do it.

From: http://www.tomdispatch.com/post/174884

The world's top 10 military spenders and the approximate amounts each country currently budgets for its military establishment are:

1. United States (FY08 budget), $623 billion
2. China (2004), $65 billion
3. Russia, $50 billion
4. France (2005), $45 billion
5. United Kingdom, $42.8 billion
6. Japan (2007), $41.75 billion
7. Germany (2003), $35.1 billion
8. Italy (2003), $28.2 billion
9. South Korea (2003), $21.1 billion
10. India (2005 est.), $19 billion

World total military expenditures (2004 est.), $1,100 billion
World total (minus the United States), $500 billion

It is virtually impossible to overstate the profligacy of what our government spends on the military. The Department of Defense's planned expenditures for fiscal year 2008 are larger than all other nations' military budgets combined. The supplementary budget to pay for the current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, not part of the official defense budget, is itself larger than the combined military budgets of Russia and China. Defense-related spending for fiscal 2008 will exceed $1 trillion for the first time in history. The United States has become the largest single salesman of arms and munitions to other nations on Earth. Leaving out of account President Bush's two on-going wars, defense spending has doubled since the mid-1990s. The defense budget for fiscal 2008 is the largest since World War II.

Spare me the derision unless you are a retired military officer like myself (Ret USAF). Been there and done that with first hand experience.

the dollar amount isnt the help, its the perception of 'all's well' that helps.

cognitive dissonance

lemmings

perception is reality

fundamentals don't get much truck with the unwashed masses; they just need to know that help is on the way and "prethto, chang-o, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat" - it's all good.
