Saw something about that online last week. The writer made a joke about where all the water would come from to cool the reactor down.

Does this article address that?

thats cooooooooooooool. but at half the cost of grid energy, how long in that 40 year life span will it pay for itself?
What about the waste? Notice they ddnt talk about marketing it to american consumbers? it'll never happen. Were to terrorist minded to let anyone have their own nuclear reactor.

no waste

no plans for USA its rolling out in Japan for a while

lots of clearances before it would be allowed state side

terrorism is not an obstacle.. its much more convenient for them to target a large facility than a bunch of container sized small units.

they can do worse with a barrel of sirin....

on a lighter note...

the energy cost will be cut in half but wait til u get the water bill!

That's interesting. I hadn't heard of that one before. The small nuclear power station that I am familiar with is the Pepple Bed Modular unit that MIT is jointly developing with (for?) China. It is "meltdown proof", which is a plus to say the least, but it sounds like it is quite a bit bigger than the Toshiba unit.

Too bad our country doesn't give a sh*t about nuclear power. China is running around the world locking up uranium supplies to support their 15 new plants, and the French are right there with them. There is not enough uranium in the world, and the mines take decades to become producers.

I wonder if the fact that we havent figured out exactly what to do with the waste is a reason the US isnt pushing harder for more nuclear plants

1). Safety. We haven't gotten over Three Mile Island yet.
2). The "not in my back yard" attitude - and that goes for both the power plants and the burying of the waste
3). The tree huggers took a stand against it, which I don't understand 'cause it is certainly cleaner than any of our other options, expect for 'power abstinence'

In a couple years when Peak Oil is better understood and the effects are being felt, people will be screaming for it. But all the decommissioned weapons uranium will be gone, and China will have locked up all of Austrailia's.

Abstinence it is.
