Champion Windows Houston -- shutting down?
PostPosted: Thu May 12, 2011 3:39 pm Reply with quoteBack to top

I'm hearing from a buddy of mine that Champion Windows in Houston is closing. He said there was an immigration raid in April and 75% of their workers were illegal. They've been trying to struggle along, but top brass (HQ in Dallas?) decided this week that rather than try to replace all those workers, they would shift production to other plants that have excess capacity. He had no idea where those plants were (Dallas? Atlanta?); this was something he heard from a home builder friend of his.

Not what I am hearing. Went fishing with my buddy this weekend, and he said his friend (a supt for a large Houston home builder) is already using another supplier; that Champion told them 4-6 weeks for shipments.

His buddy also said the pressure to build houses quicker & cheaper is becoming overwhelming. He'd leave them (national builder--no names) but he's survived all the cutbacks and hates to jump ship now.

A little birdy told me that David Weekley's production is suffering as a result.

It's temporary.

Champion Window Rumors
PostPosted: Mon Jul 11, 2011 11:38 am Reply with quoteBack to top

When I was at Champion Window's Houston office last week I didn't perceive any change in sales or production.

It seems the rumor of their closing Houston production is just that, a rumor.

No change in production?!? I'm hearing they have lost 60-70% of their accounts. They lost Pulte, Perry, Weekley, Ashton Woods, DRHorton and Lennar, plus a dozen more. Fact.

Champion Windows has been around for a long time and they are carrying a lot of baggage. They are not good at resolving complaints. I will not use them again.

It's official. Champion Windows is closing their Houston plant. They are laying off the remaining 150 employees.

Supposedly they will keep a few salespeople, who will be selling a window made in Dallas. I'd say service will be even worse, except their service was already so bad, no one may notice the difference. Laughing

Good riddance to a company that used mostly illegal labor, and provided NO benefits to them.

In October Champion Window announced that it would close its Houston plant and cut 135 jobs. However, a few companies expanded. I Web Application Mania wonder what's the reason?
