Need advice on finding underwriter jobs.
PostPosted: Fri Apr 27, 2012 4:28 pm Reply with quoteBack to top

This may have been answered before so I apologize if I'm repeating.

I was an underwriter up until 2007 and I am trying to get back into the job market. I'm seeing it's tough due to the recent changes. I'm in a catch 22 cause I can't find an U/W job without recent u/w experience, and I need a job for that!

Can anyone give me some tips or is there any classes available outside of employers to train in u/w that would give me some leverage? My goal is to learn as much about DE underwriting as possible if that helps.

Any direction would be helpful, cause I'm out of answers.

because it will be different this time ?

because it took 5 years to forget how bad it was ?

maybe just buy a little business somewhere on this planet that maybe won't explode in the next 10 minutes ?

Make it a Great Day.

Seeing what the need is right now where I am...I'd say look for any classes/training you can get for HARP loans. In addition to that I'd also suggest getting training in VA underwriting if you can. VA IRRRL's are VERY easy to underwrite in particular and dont require any past u/w experience to get into, but if you can make the jump from IRRRL's to full credit qualifying VA loans you'll find lenders will be more interested in you.
