Bankruptcy and mortgagew

Does anyone know the effect of bankruptcy by one spouse in a divorce where there is a jointly held mortgage? What if there is a deficiency after a court sale? Does the bankrupt spouse get off Scott-free?

define "the effect" ??

obviously it depends on the deal and it's anybody's guess - you'd likely be well advised to breeze this past local counsel.
