Questions about "First Mariner Bank of Maryland"
PostPosted: Sat Jan 01, 2011 11:30 pm Reply with quoteBack to top

I'm interested in what is going on with First Mariner Bank. I've read about their troubles in meeting Tier One capital levels. Efforts to raise capital during 2009 and 2010 have fallen short. I know the bank has narrowed its quarterly losses, but continues to lose money. I'm aware that it has a troubled commercial real-estate portfolio. I'm aware that CEO Ed Hale has resisted efforts to suggest that the bank be sold to prevent it's being taken over by regulators. I know the stock price has collapsed to about fifty cents per share.

What I'd like to know if possible, is what's the game plan going forward? Other than the bank being sold to a stronger bank, I just don't see it being able to out grow the current problems. I'm not an insider, and it's possible that the impression in the press is too negative, but given the health of small and mid-sized banks around the country, things don't look too good.

The bank is having their problems al-right. Here is a link to their latest loss that I was just reading a while ago http://www.bizjournals.com/baltimore/storage

Hope it helps, even though it's not great news.
Cheers, Pete.
